A member of 2nd Gourock Guides is celebrating after receiving the highest award for Guides; Girlguiding’s section for girls aged between 10 and 14 – the Baden-Powell Challenge Award.

Jennifer chose to complete a range of exciting activities to achieve the award, including hosting an American night and going to a BP Adventure weekend where she got to meet Guides from other Units.

Jennifer said: “I’m really proud to have completed my Baden-Powell award because it has taken a lot of hard work to get. As part of the award, I did a bake sale where I made a variety of different cakes which the rest of my Unit enjoyed! I also went to the Tartan Gig in the Hydro with ten thousand other Guides. I then wrote a review about it which made me think about how it felt to be there and how much I enjoyed it!”

Unit leader, Christine McLachlan said: “I’m very proud of Jennifer for completing her Baden-Powell award. We offer girls a safe space where they can enjoy new experiences, learn new skills, use their voice and realise their potential. She has worked incredibly hard – from organising the American evening for our Guide unit to the challenge of going away with people she didn’t know. Jennifer received the award during a special presentation evening recently.”

The Baden-Powell Challenge Award is divided into five sections and Guides choose which activities they want to do within each section, from leading an action-packed sports evening for their unit to giving a presentation on a world issue of their choice.

To complete the award, Guides also take part in an adventure weekend, during which they face various set challenges, trying new things and pushing themselves outside their comfort zone.
