A Wee Day OOT

Maureen Buchanan

“We had a brilliant time yesterday. Thanks for all the work you put into it. Can we do it
again?” This is a quote from one of the many leaders and Trefoil members who joined in
with our Wee Day OOT to Helensburgh. It was a great success.
While our County Commissioner gave a rundown of her team’s activities over the last five
years, we also had a couple of special presentations. Amy Cowling has worked hard and
had a varied programme for her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award visiting the Peak District for
volunteering and also attending the Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow learning about stage
management which she later put in to practice at a local drama group.
Sandra Jolly received her 60 year service award. This was a total surprise to Sandra and it
was lovely to see her receive this after many years as a leader and now as the County
Archivist. Sheila spoke about her first meeting with Sandra over 30 years ago and how
much work Sandra continues to put in to Guiding through the archives.
The Lord Lieutenant Colonel Peter McCarthy attended along with Deputy Scottish Chief
Commissioner Sarah MacNeil It was lovely to see both the Lord Lt and Sarah attend our
event. We are certainly keeping them busy with everything we are doing in Renfrewshire.
Sheila’s team are coming to the end of our term and it was lovely for us to be together with
the new County Commissioner Wilma Carroll and her Deputy Caroline Connie and to spend
the day with so many Guiding and Trefoil members.
